1. heavy rain  大雨（泛指）

Hundreds of flights have been canceled since the heavy rain began three days ago. 

过去三天的大雨让很多航班被取消了。

2. torrential /tə'rɛnʃl/ rain  

暴雨，瓢泼大雨，骤降的大雨

Beijing was hit by torrential rains this morning.

北京今天早上下起了瓢泼大雨。

3. downpour /'daʊnpɔr/

暴雨, 倾倒而下

The entire city has been plagued by the downpour.

整个城市已被这场暴雨弄瘫痪了。 

4. thundershower /'θʌndɚʃaʊɚ/

雷阵雨，常伴随闪电雷鸣

We were playing soccer when a violent thundershower occurred.

当雷阵雨来袭时，我们正在踢足球。 

5. rain cats and dogs 

大雨，暴雨(现在已不常用）

 It's raining cats and dogs out there!
