Dim Sum Disco is back!  After a half-year hiatus, the long running dance party returns to the scene with one of their dance music heroes: Justin Vandervolgen.  A man with a long musical history in the New York City underground scene, Justin V. first came to fame through his involvement with the iconic late-90’s disco-punk bands !!! and Out Hud.  

As a solo-artist he has been releasing incredibly original dance jams and disco edits on labels like DFA, Golf Channel, ESP Institute and Throne Of Blood, and his talent as a DJ shines equally as bright as his studio productions.  With Vandervolgen making his first appearance in Beijing and Dim Sum Disco coming out of hibernation, this is certain to be a wild and fun night of disco dancing.

Brooklyn resident Justin Vandervolgen is one of those DJs and producers who seems synonymous with New York City, brandishing a stellar discography that holds credits for labels such as Golf Channel, DFA, Throne Of Blood, Eric Duncan’s Keep It Cheap and ESP Institute. There’s always something special about the end product of a Vandervolgen studio session, be it his Try To Find Me releases for Phil South’s perennially on point Golf Channel, his work as TBD alongside long time compadre Lee Douglas, or the numerous remixes and edits that have appeared intermittently over the years.


No doubt informed by his tutelage in the late-90’s disco-punk acts Out Hud and !!!, there’s always been a rough and deadly feel to a production from Justin Vandervolgen; his brutally primal and propulsive 2010 Golf Channel production “Clapping Song” or the deranged thump of TBD’s release on DFA, Oh My. It’s releases like these that ensure anyone who dismisses Van Der Volgen as merely “another disco edit producer” should do so at their peril. There’s evidently a wide knowledge and understanding of dance music that shines through in his output.
