A unique experience for diners recently at Beijing’s iconic Opposite House Hotel was the ‘One Star House Party’. The internationally renowned team behind pop-up restaurants in New York, Taipei and Seoul produced a locally influenced menu reflecting their extensive travels throughout China.

Learning from Sichuan farmers

Discovering rural Sichuan

During September the team associated with top dining names such as NOMA, Tom Aitkens and  SOHO House travelled through areas such as Sichuan foraging for ingredients as well as learning from rice farmers and local street-food vendors.

Bei Space Opposite House (lumdimsum.com)

At the end of September Bei Space in the Opposite House was transformed into a style unlike any contemporary restaurant. The team handcrafted furniture from bamboo to create a dining experience like no other. Each dish was created by the chefs in front of the diners, personally delivered to their tables with explanations  in detail about the creations.

Roast duck with Sichuan ingredients

In this feature, two of the team, Trisha McCrae originally from Glasgow and James Sharman from Leicester north of London talk of their amazing adventures. They gave up secure positions within the international top-end restaurant scene to go off on this year long adventure which will eventually take them to twenty cities worldwide.
